I was extremely disappointed with the Access Accents Received Pronunciation CD. When I ordered it I envisioned something akin to a foreign language type CD, where a person models the speech, then you repeat it. This does occur on the CD, but out of about one hour of recorded audio, this amounts to five and a half minutes. The rest of the CD, about half of it, consists of (partly) an RP instructor talking about the history of RP, talking about problems actors have with RP, and partly--and this being the majority of the half of this section--and I think rather inappropriately--is the RP instructor trying to guide a student in pronouncing RP, and her imperfect pronunciation of it (she is Irish, and the Irish comes through the RP quite badly)--and there are quite long excerpts of her reading various things, such as Shakespeare, in this imperfect accent, with the instructor attempting to bring her closer to a proper pronunciation. I feel for this woman trying to work through her perfection of RP with the instructor, but exactly why the makers of this CD felt this should be included on the CD is not clear. Additionally, there are three recordings of actual RP speakers--i.e., speakers in natural settings, talking about some aspect of their lives, about one minute each--two being "marked" RP, the other "unmarked," with a transcription of this speech in the booklet, which I found helpful, as I have been working with those texts to perfect my pronunciation. What I ended up doing, however, because of the scantiness of recorded and transcribed RP on the CD, is transcribing the instructor's comments about the history of RP (etc.)--she speaks in flawless RP--and using THAT text to work on my RP, so as to not make the CD almost a complete waste. I understand the rationale of the makers of the CD as to why they thought listening to an instructor work with a amateur actor to perfect her pronunciation--i.e. listening to someone work through problems with an instructor will benefit another person--but I don't this is effective. However, the CD is only twenty dollars, and what I have gotten from it, especially with my transcriptions of the instructor's speech, has made it worth the small amount of money invested.

I bought the Cockney accent cd with booklet quite a while ago. They come in a cd case. After learning, I was able to hold at least an entire hour of constant reading important information over the phone before enrolling prospect into a plan we were selling. I absolutely love this cd and if you practice it often, you will learn it fast. Also any revelant movies ,may be of help such as "East enders".

It didn't help me much at all actually. I ended up buying $120 complete accent system that I've been using ever since. I should've just purchased the more expensive one in the beginning.

This was very interesting and helpful. It's not so much a lesson than a discussion, but it still breaks down the accents in question, isolating each sound that makes them unique. You hear clips of real people with those accents having real conversations, so you get a feel of what that accent sounds like in a more natural environment. It's a very different approach from what I was expecting, but I think it helped me more than a traditional lesson would have. I definitely would recommend giving this a shot!

I agree with the first reviewer. This audio is really quite bad. The vast majority of it is spent with us listening to a "lesson" in Received Pronunciation. Much of the lesson is poorly planned and developed--it just meanders. The "student" is an actress with a native Irish accent. Her RP accent is mediocre at best and very poor at worst. You will spend just as much time listening to her speak with an Irish accent as you will spend listening to words, phrases, and sentences in RP. I think that Amazon and Audible ought to pull this audio recording because it is so low in quality. I have to say that it is the most disappointing audio recording I have ever encountered, and I am something of an audio addict.

I'm a sucker for all things Saturn V. Yes, the subject has been done to death; there are dozens of excellent books on the rocket, not to mention documentaries, model kits, toys, Lego sets, and so on. I had high hopes for this title, and hoped that, at the very least, it'd include some interesting new insights that I hadn't read anywhere else.Although I suppose I shouldn't have expected much for $16, this book is a disappointment on virtually every level. The photographs are decent, as are the color cross-sections of the Saturn I, IB, and V that occupy the middle. The last part of the book, which includes summary details of all 32 Saturn flights, is useful if rather perfunctory. The first 60-odd pages try to cram in everything but the kitchen sink. We get an overview of the evolution of the Saturn series, the roles of the major contractors, the development of the launch and assembly facilities, and descriptions of each stage and engine. None of these subjects are explored in much depth, and occasionally the author will go off on odd tangents, the lengthy aside on Merritt Island's mosquito problem being an obvious one. The fact that the book was originally published in German (rather bizarrely some of the diagrams and tables still have call-outs in German), and has been rather clumsily translated, doesn't help the readability all that much. Maybe 2/5th of this book is actually devoted to the Saturn V, the rest focusing on the earlier Saturn launch vehicles. It's nice that they get their due, but the title is a clear case of false advertisement.There's also a rather frustrating number of technical errors. Liquid Hydrogen is described as being "25 degrees" colder than Liquid Oxygen, the SPS is credited with a specific impulse of 510 seconds, the first five Saturn I flights have perigees significantly higher than their apogees, and the loaded weight of the S-IC is listed at 617,294 pounds. The descriptions of of the operation of the F-1 and J-2 motors are clumsily written and don't jive with previously published material.If already own some of the classic technical books on the Saturn V and Saturn series, particularly "Stages to Saturn", the two books by Alan Lawrie, and the recent Haynes "Workshop Manual," there's really no reason to buy this one. It has potential, but it's too skimpy and sloppy to recommend to anyone but hardcore completists.

Outstanding history of the technology that created America’s amazing moon rocket, the Saturn V.

Love this series. Detailed, but not overwhelmingly so. For an acknowledged "space nut," this series is a joy.

Informative book on the Saturn V rocket with lots of color photos. Pages 1 - 79 provide a brief history of the development of the Saturn V; it starts with the Saturn I. Pages 80 - 142 provide 2-page summaries of every Saturn mission.I thought the book was worthwhile, although admittedly the story of the technical development of the rocket was probably too brief. Still, for a book under 150 pages it was pretty good.Overall, I am simply in awe of the scientific, engineering, industrial, and managerial accomplishments of the US 50 to 60 years ago. As pointed out in the book, the computer power of the control system for a Saturn V is less than what is contained in a modern cellphone. We live in a very different American society today.I think a comparison of the former Soviet rocket and satellite program with the American program is fascinating. The best publication I have found on the Soviet space program is the 4-volume series "Rockets and People" by Boris Chertok. I have read Volumes II and IV. The Soviet design system, manufacturing facilities, and test procedures were primitive by American standards, yet they accomplished amazing feats in the short term.
