This is the catalogue for a beautiful exhibition held at the Met last year. The paintings reproduced here are among the best examples of the New Objectivity, a movement that was able to depict the atmosphere, the soul, the world of the Weimar Republic, that brief time span when pre-war Germany enjoyed freedom in the arts and in the minds. These gripping paintings show how ultimately doomed that world was and how the artists were the first to sense the tragic developments that were to succeed it. The front cover, a detail of one of Christian Schad's best known paintings, is a perfect illustration of a society that seems to have enjoyed life knowing that death would come too soon, with the end of that joyful and poetic decadence that was the Berlin of the 1920's.

Finally an excellent review of what the first World War did to German culture and psyche. This book lays it all out. Hitler was a logical consequence. Unfortunately the Western world did not pay enough attention to these portentious signs. The book has beautiful color reproductions, great detailed commentary on each artist featured and enaough historical commentary to make it all plausible.

The actual exhibit at the Met was good (although I thought it'd be bigger) and relatively informative, but the book gets into depths the exhibit couldn't. Ideally you should see the exhibit and then read this book. You can't quite get the experience of seeing the works within the book, and you can't exactly get the knowledge of just reading the little blurbs that are glued beside each piece in the exhibit.The book explores the themes of German life before the world turned on itself and the second world war exploded. For the money it's worth the dive into the weird and fascinating world of German Expressionism.

I would highly recommend this book for History Buffs and anyone who enjoys innovative German art from the 1920's-30's. Ample background is presented about the circumstances that engendered the creation of these works. The works themselves are astounding. This is a book I will read much more than once.

This is an amazing art book about the German underworld in the 1920s before the reign of Hitler during the fall of the Weimar Republic after World War I. This book contains mainly dark and disturbing art pieces that are featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through February 2007. Very interesting to read about and it basically sums up the entire collection and more that are featured at the MET. Great book... not for the squimish. This book is really very dark and it does tell the true story of Germany during the 20s.

Twice viewed the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum here in New York. German art in the 20s is raw, obscene and decadent. A raucus reflection on hard times there. They had just suffered WW1, in the midst of fascism, insane inflation, etc. Highlight: Otto Dix is a wild artist, forever a favorite now. Also a DaDa artist.I am a frequent art museum visitor. Therefore, in my opinion, this catalogue did the show great justice which is not aways the case.

We're in the process of planning an outbound sales call center. This book did a good job explaining the process from introductory elements, like space planning, to telco planning, to later stage descriptions and applications of advanced technologies like predictive dialing and CRM.Best practices and interesting little factoids are pointed out every step of the way, which were very helpful and interesting.If you're looking for a book to get your thinking organized on the topic of call centers and call center technologies, this book is a good place to start. Once point of caution. The book was written in 2004, so some of the information is slightly dated. In my opinion the info that was dated didn't take away from the value of the book.

Lots of useful information, and not too dull. There's a lot of specifics in here about technical call networking, which really isn't useful when you're managing the people rather than the IT.

Probably the best book out there for anyone who needs to understand the evolution and future direction of customer care technology and its ecosystem.

The way Keith Dawson handles the materials is well-written and concise. He does not waste much time going into more than just a couple real-world applications for the technologies he is explaining, but he does set your mind spinning about how they can be used to suit your needs. The information on VoIP and IP Telephony are a little dated and an updated edition would obviously expand a lot on those technologies (which were just emerging when the book was written but have become very popular in the industry now). Not only does he discuss what technologies are available (like AVR, IP-PBX, Recording, Call Queuing, etc.), he goes into a brief discription of the more traditional PBX system, if only to point out their flaws compared to today's newer technology but not failing to point out their merits as well. A good book for someone who is just beginning to integrate themselves in the field and the tech.

Very theoretical. Not much help for daily operations. It's more a strategic book on call center planning. Still was useful on some equipment buying decision.

Buy it only if you are a beginner.
