Debate abounds on the future of Israel and Israel's relation to the church, not only between dispensationalists and non-dispensationalists, but among dispensationalists themselves. In the past that debate has sometimes been acrimonious, and proponents of the differing viewpoints have found little common ground. In recent years, however, views have been modified and developed so that the dialogue is increasingly by cooperation and a mutual exploration of diverse ideas. The Case for Progressive Dispensationalism is intended to enlighten the debate in that same irenic spirit. The book is solidly dispensational in perspective in affirming that the Old Testament prophecies are completely fulfilled in the future, that the nation of Israel has a prophetic future, and that Israel is not the church. Dr. Saucy departs from classic dispensationalism, however, in showing that (1) the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy begins in the present church age, and (2) the church is not a parenthesis in God's program but represents a continuity with the Old Testament messianic program. This modified dispensationalism seeks to satisfy many of the objections of non-dispensational approaches to eschatology while retaining the crucial elements of biblical interpretation that characterize dispensational thought.

This is not a review of the content of the book, which if you are interested in the topic you will likely enjoy. This book has more typos and errors than any kindle book I have ever purchased. There were sections where there typos on every page, and sometimes multiple typos. I would expect this from a free book, but not one that costs 17$, and especially not for an academic work such as this. Whoever made this kindle book needs to do some serious editing of it.Again, as far as content, it can be difficult to make it through this book, but the best part is that you are reading source material for each view and not relying on the opposing view to state what the other view is.

Good summary of the progressive interpretation. Not a sequential commentary; so it's good to know Biblical prophecy and the traditional dispensationalist viewpoint BEFORE reading this book.

Progressive Dispensationalism (abbreviated "PD") is a paradigm (model) useful for interpreting Scripture. It is in most ways similar to traditional Dispensationalism because it recognizes a special future for genetic Israel in the future Millennial Kingdom.PD has a number of proponents, all with their unique twists. Saucy's version of PD is probably the closest to the traditional Dispensational viewpoint. Saucy, like other PDs, sees a limited fulfillment of Old Testament Millennial prophecies in the church. Saucy writes,"...the present age is only the inauguration and partial fulfillment of the prophecies."Early on, Saucy argues that the literal tabernacle (for example) was a type fulfilled in Christ. The literal then the spiritual. OT prophecy regarding the Kingdom Age is the mirror image: some of them, at least, are first fulfilled spiritually in the church and then literally as promised to Israel during the Millennium. A spiritual application does not preclude a literal fulfillment.Saucy then demonstrates that this is how the NT authors quote the OT prophecies of the conversion of the gentiles (and apply them to the church). Whether it be the End Time prophecy of Joel quoted in Acts 2, or the New Covenant, the NT authors' use of the OT is problematic with Traditional Dispensationalism. The problem evaporates when a PD hermeneutic is applied.Yet the NT authors expected a literal fulfillment of the prophecies given to Israel, terminology unchanged (thus exposing the problem with Covenant and replacement viewpoints). Again, the problem is solved with a PD hermeneutic.Besides its 12 chapters, the book is divided into 4 main sections: Introduction, The Present Age and Old Testament Prophecy, The Church in Salvation History, and The Place of Israel.All in all, a fine work worth reading (for the theologian, pastor, or layman who has serious interest in this area). This is a theological book and written in a style that will be cozy for theologians and Bible students, but probably a stretch for the average layman.From my own perspective, I think a Messianic Jewish perspective adds a richness to these sorts of discussions that is absent from more mainstream evangelical scholarship. Still, a top-notch work. Highly recommended, especially for those few nasty dispensationalists who try to characterize PD as Covenant Theology (not true).

With all the emphasis that John MacArthur and Fred Malone [opposing views] are making concerning progressive dispensationalism (JM's view) and covenantalism (FM's view) it would be good for us to understand the 'update' that has occurred. The following review comments create great expectations for what we can learn:"For those who want a clear and scholarly presentation of this "newer" type of dispensationalism (i.e., progressive dispensationalism) that has gained much ground within conservative evangelical circles should look to this book. Saucy's book is filled with the desire to be faithful to the Scriptures and to uphold God's glory.""Particularly useful is Saucy's examination of Romans 11. He makes a convincing case why Paul was referring to national Israel rather than "spiritual" or "remnant" Israel in the passage. Also, Saucy's discussion of why Israel must still have a role to play in God's revelatory and salvific program is convincing (God still needs Israel to carry out His revelatory and salvific purposes). Overall, this book is a good starter for those seminarians who want a good understanding of this developing system."For that reason, I have purchased this book.

I love this book. My speech teacher wrote this book when he was in college!!! He gave me this book my freshmen year of college when I did a speech in his class over Elvis! I love looking at the pictures.

If you've been to Graceland, this book will bring back wonderful memories. It's what Graceland's all about: Elvis fans communing with Elvis. I've been to Graceland, I've written on the wall, and I've read the wall. It's funny, touching, slightly goofy, in loving memory graffiti, and this book captures that spirit. It's a great little addition to any Elvis collection.

Robin Robertson is from the northeast coast of Scotland. He has published five collections of poetry and received a number of accolades, including the Petrarca-Preis, the E. M. "The Bacchae," along with Sophocles' "Oedipus at Colonus," marks the end of the great age of Greek tragedy. The conventional wisdom about this play--at least since Friedrich Nietzsche--is that here Euripides repented his earlier rationalist debunking of the Olympian pantheon and returned to the simple faith of his ancestors. I have my doubts. "The Bacchae" resembles nothing so much as a cautionary tale of the 1960s counterculture. While Pentheus, with his mental rigidity and fear of change, bears a striking resemblance to the hero of Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart," Dionysus brings to mind such charismatic--and deadly--cult leaders as Charles Manson, David Koresh, and Jim Jones. Interestingly Dionysus' entourage, like the Manson family, is almost exclusively female. The disgusting savagery of Dionysian ritual illustrates the dangers of abandoning reason, logic, and human decency to follow our dark primitive instincts. A modern treatment of the same theme is Thomas Tryon's "Harvest Home." Paul Woodruff provided the highly informative introduction (although I disagree thoroughly with his conclusions) and his translation into vigorous, straightforward contemporary English gives us a glimpse of what a shattering impact "The Bacchae" must have had on its first audience. "The Bacchae" may well be one of the most disturbing creations in the western literary canon.

Even though the circumstances aren't current - citizens running off to the countryside to worship Bacchae - and the drama is not what moderns expect - most of the action takes place offstage, there is something in this play that is moving and still speaks to the human experience - at least it did to me. Perhaps it's simply that the characters are thoroughly invested in what they believe to be right and true - and they are also deluded - and pay heavily, the heaviest possible price. Impossible not to be moved by that fundamental human experience even if circumstances are completely different now.I am not competent to judge the translation, other than it was easy to read. The notes were comprehensive, the opening introduction was very helpful.

I'm working on my degree in Ancient Greek, and I'm translating through the Bacchae in one of my classes right now. I have a really good english translation in a big book of Euripides plays, but I wanted a smaller english copy of just the Bacchae to write in/highlight/carry around while I was working on a paper. I couldn't find on the product page who did this English translation, but I figured it would be fine because I wasn't really using the English for anything but helping me find specific parts more quickly so I could look them up in the greek version.Still, this translation is really not good at all. If you're actually wanting to read the Bacchae, find a different translation that does it at least some justice. I like the translation by Stephen Esposito, or you can read it for free on the Perseus website (they use the T.A. Buckley translation).PROS: it's a lightweight and cheap version, if you just need a referenceCONS: it is NOT true to the Greek and not very artfully done. If you want to read and appreciate the Bacchae, see my suggestions above.

Medea by Euripedes was a play I chose for my 2015 reading challenge. The play, with only 47 pages took about 1/2 hour to read. My first thought was.....doesn't the woman on the cover look like Salma Hayek?The play centers around Medea, a goddess who falls madly in love, emphasis on MADLY, with Jason. She gives up everything for this man. We're talking killing, stealing, betraying her father and home, the whole kitten caboodle. She has 2 sons by him then one day, bang........homeboy hooks up with this younger chick, leaves Medea and the kids and marries this home-wrecker. Say what???? Say it isn't so........ oh, it's so!To put icing on the cake, this home-wrecker's daddy (Creon) banishes her from the land. Allowed to stay one more day she plots her revenge and baby she went for it. Unfortunately her revenge is an act that would cost a lifetime of suffering not only her husband but herself as well.Medea, although a quick read, is very powerful. You will agree with Medea and understand her pain but will hate her for her decisions. Jason is a loser who tries to convince Medea that what he was doing was for a good reason. Let me tell you something, no one (woman) in there right mind would believe it. What's interesting is the mentality of both individuals. Medea was not afraid to show her emotions, whether sadness, fear or anger but Jason remained calmed and had no hatred towards her. She screamed at him, called him names, yet he thought they could still remain friends until the end.With no idea what this play was about or how it would turn out. I'm glad I chose it.

While one oftentimes appreciates the scholar for diligence, just as often the entry of Liddell & Scott provides more than adequate discussion of the vocabulary. E. R. Dodds provides a thorough discussion of the vocabulary and an interesting excursus on Euripides "Bacchae". The benefit of this scholarship is background data re extant manuscript editions to verify he textus receptus. In a few lines, Dodds gives background info on Euripides and the play. The student should always be aware that the scholar could be wrong in his interpretation, however excellent the scholarship. Studying Greek allows the student to read this type of scholarly work and make a meaningful contribution or interpretation of the play.

I read this for the first time years ago. I read it again in preparation for writing the sequel to the Sparrow Princess, which will be told from the main antagonist's viewpoint. To say this is a story about a woman scorned doesn't even come close to describing the intensity of Medea's hate. Although I could clearly see both sides of this conflict, it occurred to me that this tragedy repeats itself over and over again to varying degrees even until today. And like the story illustrates, the children are always the ones who suffer the most.

This book is simply amazing! Gikandi is firmly rooted in non-duality/Oneness, and in quantum physics, and provides the rules for how to navigate this manifestation and have a great time doing it. If you have stumbled across this review, and what I'm saying makes sense to you, or lights you up, it may be a sign that this book is for you. It showed up for me precisely when I was ready, via the recommendation of a colleague I see no more than once a year. Can I say enough about this AWESOME book?!?!? Absolutely not!!! It is one of the best books on understanding the energy of money and what it's true relationship is to each human soul! I've read more than 100 books and listened to more than 200 audio books and this book right here is more valuable than all those books combined together and some! Literally answered & confirmed all the questions I had in life. The value in this book is over a billion and I dare even a trillion dollars worth of information. Beware that you must be open and willing to understand the simple complexity this book teaches or else you'll be confused and lost. I have now read and listed to this book over 100x and that's still as understatement.

Read it once through and found it posed thoughts I had not considered, yet still left questions in my own mind when reflecting on my religious beliefs and the things I have been taught from an early age. There was a lot of value and things to ponder and reflect on and that is why I will reread a second time and share with my husband and adult children. Many of the basic principals we practice already, but there is a depth to the writing that proposes deeper thought and discussion.

Every few years I come across information that gives me the knowledge I need to rebalance myself and expand upward and outward at the same time. Don't let the title of this book fool you. The title is the surface level outcome of the information contained within the pages. I thought I was picking this book up to learn more about how to attract more monetary wealth. What I have found is so much deeper and the monetary wealth I have received is a happy outcome to so much more than its surface level gratification, although that's nice too. :)I bought another copy for my husband. He is experiencing the same deeper level awareness to it that I have. So now we have wonderful discussions together regarding how the information in this book interacts with our daily awareness. My husband has already finished and started over but I find that I can only read a little at a time because there is so much for me to digest. I love this book. I think I will be reading, discussing, digesting it for a very long time. What a great adventure for me. ;)

I absolutely love this book and highly recommend it to anyone that is doing any self-help or self-improvement work on themselves. This is a must-read. It is somewhat hard to follow but the other does say that in the book that you will understand the material when you are ready. Some people need to read it more than once some people need to read it multiple times or they don't get what it means until they get to the end of the book. Very well written I've gotten so much out of it and I really enjoy everything
