It is refreshing to read a book that is not afraid to share the atrocities of Mao Zedong, even if the author uses lower figures than many for the millions dead at his command. Most Americans are completely unaware of this ruthless killer. A few years ago I was shocked to meet someone from China who said his whole family was starved to death at the command of Mao Zedong. Since then I have read more Chinese history and met several people with the same testimony. The torture, the mind control, the laws to bow before his image. We have a holocaust museum in Washington D.C. to share about the atrocities of Adolf Hitler. Mao was worse. Mao's China must be taught, and this book is a good intro.

If you are a serious musician/student, this book will be a complete waste of time. Almost all of the songs are in the wrong keys. What was especially strange was that they were not even in easier keys, which made me wonder what the point was! For example "Big Girls Don't Cry", which is performed in G Major on the original Four Seasons and Original Broadway Cast recordings, is written in A-flat Major here. What is the point of raising the key on song that already sits high in the male range and is in a key that is harder to read for most pianists? Not that I have any trouble reading in any key, but usually the reason for transposing songs in these types of editions is to either make it easier for the vocalist or pianist (who may not be very proficient yet). That said, it's annoying to have to transpose every song in the book to make it correct! I ended up returning it. With all of the inaccuracies, it is easier for me to just look up the chord changes for each song online and use it like a lead sheet. At least then my students can sing in the correct key. I can't imagine why anyone would find this book useful for any reason!

This is a fairly good Vocal Selection book. Most of the songs from the show are included (everything sung in the "Scrapbook" segment is left out), but other than that, it is complete. My one complaint is that all of the arrangements are for the original versions of the songs (including original key signatures) and in that way, this book does not accurately reflect the music from the show. Another concern is that "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is written a half-step lower than it is performed (both by Franki Valli and the cast of Jersey Boys) which I can imagine would be frustrating for both musicians and soloists. This book also contains no background vocals. I still play it all the time and I enjoy the music of the Four Seasons very much, but I wish that this could be the actual "Jersey Boys" arrangements.

I would not of got this if I thought it was all music & not a regular book about Frankie Valli

I was looking for a book featuring good piano renditions of the Four Seasons. This score does it. All the hits are there. Fairly easy to sight read, play through it a few times and you can get the song down (i'm late intermediate level on the piano, in all honesty). I really like the piano arrangements; the melody and basic chord structures are carried with the right hand, with basic bass-lines in the left. This is not an accompaniment book; the piano arrangement carries the melody.We love it!

Straight forward guitar/piano/vocal arrangements and its not easy piano so the arrangements are satisfying. Very fun to play songs with nice bass parts typical of 50s style songs.

Good selection of Four Seasons songs. Not hard to play. Most songs have a fade out, I would rather have a solid ending on arrangements. I will use this book a lot. Arrangements provide a good framework for the songs for those who want to add their own style.

I'm so sorry I bought this book. Its got about as much info as a website and the price for the book is insane. I bought it because I'm escaping domestic violence in my marriage and thought this book would help me. It hasn't. Its' written in a Q&A format which makes it easy to jump around and look up stuff but tedious to read long sections. I would skip this book you're lawyer can answer the same questions or you could google it for free and save your money.

She is a graduate of Harvard University and lives in San Francisco with her husband and three children.

There are so many reasons to read this book, other than the fact that it is simply a great read. The tech industry pretty much runs a huge chunk of our lives. Just as in medicine, law and every other profession under the sun, having both women and men on board makes a difference... and all for the better. Emily Chang looks at the psychological reasons why men dominate the tech industry in her book and traces the problem back to the very beginning...even mentioning the 19th century British mathematician, Ada Lovelace, who was the first o recognize that the computer could do so much more than merely calculate figures. I highly recommend the reading of the this very important work. It's definitely not just for people in the tech industry.

I learned a lot from this book. Incredibly thoughtful, fact-based, and with a strong narrative. This book showed me how under and uninformed I am, even as a male feminist. I came away as a more informed and motivated advocate. There is real work to do for us, especially men, to create a more inclusive and empowering environment for women. I especially loved the discussion of how products, solutions, and organizations are better with women on the team (especially leadership). The closing list of immediate actions helps create a call to action as well. Overall, the book makes a compelling case as to why more women in tech is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do.

A thoughtful, important, and incredibly timely book. I loved how the author took on the issue of gender in Silicon Valley from so many different angles - from the history of women in computing to female entrepreneurs to VCs/fundraising and culture issues. It made for a fast and fun read while at the same time being informative and grounded in diligent research and reporting. Ms Chang's background as a journalist shines in her ability to tell sides of this story never shared before and elevating new voices and perspectives. This is a nuanced issue without one single cause or solution, and Brotopia is a critical contribution to the conversation on how Silicon Valley can be a more inclusive place and truly live up to its egalitarian ideals.

I read it because of the Vanity Fair article about sex parties in Silicon Valley and I worked for a Silicon Valley company that really shaped me. I will never think the same about the Burning Man again--and I never went. The story was some more than sex orgies by the men of Silicon Valley with the young hot good looking women. It left me sad too. Systemic devaluing and lack of opportunity for women in the Silicon Valley because of the brother club at the highest levels in most of the companies. Instead of leading, Silicon Valley leads all right. With all the stuff we read in the media about women, men, lack of hiring of women, and everything around it, this book spells it out pretty well.

Very well written, and very disturbing. This culture must be un-learned and hopefully remembered just as the dark side of tech. I would highly recommend as required reading in STEM courses.

Must read for anyone working in or adjacent to tech. Not because it’s shocking, because it isn’t if you’ve been paying attention, but because it is so well documented and laid out here, for the world to read. What an incredible loss to the world as a whole, to not support and encourage more women in tech. Big yes to this book.

Highly recommend you take the time to read this to understand the history of how tech became a male-dominated culture - hint: it isn’t “natural”, but was s consequence of deliberate actions - and the consequences of that male-domination for the industry and the world.

I have spent 26 years building my career while building companies and work force in the Silicon Valley. I grew up in India in before I came here. I just wished I would have read a book like this 30 years back.Thanks Ms Chang for writing this book. It was an education and inspiration.

This is my first ever three star review of this author. I adore Katie West, and her books are just the right kind of escapism for me. Which is why I found myself surprisingly uninterested in most of the plot here. I loved the premise: movie set, sabotage, romance, what’s not to like? But it just felt like nothing ever really HAPPENED. The sabotage plot doesn’t even come to light until more than halfway through, it’s just perceived by everyone as accidents or bad luck. Then once Lacey begins to suspect people, there’s remarkably little done with it. It felt like a pointless side note.One of my favorite aspects of Ms. West’s novels is the romance between the two mains. It’s, without fail, adorable, and Ms. West is skilled at writing dreamy male love interests. And therein lies my second disappointment. Donovan was rather lackluster. He wasn’t bad, but he felt flat. The crackling tension usually felt between the mains was absent. Which is somewhat ironic, given that Lacey’s big concern is a lack of chemistry between she and her costar.I’m still a big fan, and am anxiously awaiting Maybe This Time, but I real,y hope it delivers more on its promise than this one did.

Kasie West is a fantastic YA writer. I found this book to be a whole lot different than what I was expecting. Lacie is a really big personality and she had the potential to just be annoying, but I thought the author created a great character--strong, but extremely vulnerable. Even Grant with all his self-love was a fun character. I felt like everyone was true to life and the zombie movie setting was extremely fun with lots of laughs. I did feel like there was a lot of mystery building and that part fell a little flat-no real nefarious intentions. But that is why I knocked a star off-the mystery angle just seemed to fizzle quickly after all the build.Content: CleanLanguage: CleanReligious: NoHappy reading!!

Just like all of her other books I finished Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! The characters are fun and the romance is oh so swoon worthy! I loved the this novel centered around Lacy Barnes who was a side character in Love, Life and the List and that we got to see some of our favorite characters make an appearance! My advanced fiction writing professor once told us that we should write our minor characters like they will become main characters in another book and that’s exactly what West has done! I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book it was really fun to guess who was sabatoging Lacy!100% recommend!

Kasie West books are always a perfect fit for this genre. The dialogue between Lacey and the other characters, especially the love interest is cute and fun. I also was intrigued by the little mystery in the book and wasn’t sure who was sabatoging the movie. If you like YA contemporary Romance or any other Kasie West novel, you will enjoy this book

I just love Kasie West! I love that I can just sit back, relax, and lose myself in the little worlds she creates. I hate when the book is over and I have to wait for the next one!

I love all of Kasie’s books. I am so happy and amazed at how many books she is able to release in short amounts of time. This one centers around Lacey, who was introduced in Love, Life, and the List. Abby and Cooper also make an appearance, which was sweet! I wanted to pace myself, but of course I finished it in two days. Loved it!

I really enjoyed this novel! West has a way of capturing you and pulling you into the story! I also really like it when she connects two books, but you can read them in any order. What I mean is that she occasionally has characters from other books that make an appearance in her stories, like in this one! Definitely recommend!

Absolutely adored this book! Whenever I’m in a slump, Kasie West books are my go to! And this one did not disappoint! And after I read them, my daughter reads them! So they are good for young teens and adults who love a little cheese factor.
