I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK !!!!!!!!!!!; ZERO STARS, NOT EVEN ONE !!!!!!!!! I bought this book several years ago ----- and was mortified to find it included instruction on how to rape women, how to seduce and molest girls and boys (by both men and women), and how mothers can train their daughters to be prostitutes ...... and that was all i could stomach reading before i burned it (i am a survivor of childhood abuse and molestation and adult rape and abuse). If you want help learning how to pleasure your spouse intimately, there are far better books than this one; i recommend such old faithful books like "The Joy of Sex" and "The Gift of Sex" but there are others ..... if you are a woman and want to be grateful for being a member of America and its Judio-Christian culture, then read this. When, as a survivor and concerned citizen trying to protect our children and other woman, i mentioned these contents to my local Barns and Noble store where i bought it, i was treated with condesending snootiness, the manager not even offering to read it to see for him/herself ~~~~~~ and, needless to say, i have never bought another book from that or any other B&N store since ... again, as a survivor trying to protect our children and other women from becoming victims.

I have read both Sir Richard Burton's translation and this one, and I'm sorry to say that I like this one best (sorry because I have enormous admiration for Burton). It seems as though Danielou's version is much more accessible to modern readers, while Burton's translation is handicapped by the Victorian mindset under which he toiled.I'd hasten to point out, however, that some of the ideas in this book are no longer viable. For example, biting and scratching are probably not the best means of expressing your appreciation for your partner.

I don't know what some of the reviewers are talking about, but the Kama Sutra is not only about sex. The pictures of sex positions will not help them understand what the actual Kama Sutra is about. The Kama Sutra is a condensed form that came from another bigger condensed form that came from a much bigger book about love called the "Kama Shastra." The Kama Sutra (and the original Kama Sastra) is supposed to be a guide book into true love and tries to turn you away from immoral practices that goes against the teachings of the Vedas, Laws of Manu, and other scriptures. The reason why chapters about prostitutes, making your member bigger, etcetera is to be informative. That aside, it would have stated on the cover "illustrated" if it had pictures for you to...The sexual positions are not important. Even Vatsyana (the author) doesn't give importance to sex. This is mainly on finding one woman or man to settle down with. To me it is guidance and a test within itself if you are Hindu or follow the teachings in another way. So, there is no point in giving bad reviews about this book. When you received this book in the mail and you didn't see any pictures in it, you should have returned it and bought another version. Point blank.

This book was incredible. I felt a bit overwhelmed at first. So much writing and no pictures to show you different positions, etc. But it was so informative I had no idea how much I would learn from just one book. A definite must for anyone who is slightly insecure or bored with tradition sexual intercourse. (is there even such a thing any more?) I think that anyone who reads this book will definitly become a better lover, on one level or another.

This is a great book! People often assume Kama Sutra is a dirty book that's full of sex positions. It does have a good bit of that. But it treats sex almost like a ritual rather than just a quick fix that means nothing no anyone. It has all these "instructions" that teach you everything from flirting, to foreplay, to the final act itself. Yes, it does talk of various techniques and toys and all. Very boldly. Bits of it made me raise my eyebrow("how to seduce another's wife"/"relationships with concubines") but they amused me more than they offended me. It's the perfect book on sex.You have to understand that according to Hindu scriptures, sex is one of the four main parts of life and thus, must be treated accordingly. We need to admit its importance instead of treating it as taboo. I think people should read Kama Sutra in order to gain a better understanding of the importance of sex. It's necessary to learn to respect physical intimacy and this book gives it the attention it deserves.I don't know about the translation; this is the only translation I've read and it was perfectly adequate.I bought one for a close friend for her birthday and I plan on having my siblings read it when they're older as well.

This book is overlooked by so many who desire to make love to their partners as though they were the only person in the world. The positions offered are incredible and although it may be uncomfortable to try some of them the ecstasy is well worth any discomfort or embarrassment. Try them! You will never experience total release from the world like lying in your lover's arm in one of these incredible positions!

This book includes instructions to make a couple of types of solar cookers. The commercial ones cook better, but these work OK for casseroles and such. I have also made bread. You need a very sunny day for that.It's fun to experiment with these.

I used this story in my after school program at a local Waldorf school, and the story appealed to kindergarten through sixth grade students ( and me - I'm 51 😊). The artwork is beautiful. My students drew their own pastel chalk art after we read the story based on what they envisioned from their favorite parts, and each piece was an excellent illustration of how the author superbly painted images with words. I will continue to use this book in the years to come.

So precious. Some children stories are poorly written and you want to read them really fast to get them over with. This isn't one of them.

I think it did a great job of conveying the meaning of solstice and did it in a way that brought smiles to my kids faces and delight for their holiday. I purchased several solstice books this year and this is by far my favorite. It's wonderful!

In writing Power-Up, I wanted to take what I had learned about Japanese art and culture and apply it to the video games that I had grown up loving so much, in an attempt to explain why Japan had been so successful throughout the world, from such an early point in gaming history. I wrote this book while living in Kyoto, Japan, just a few minutes' walk down the road from the original Nintendo Playing Cards building. It's a snapshot of that year of my life, as well as a history and profile of Japanese games from Super Mario to Final Fantasy to Ico. For the revised 2016 edition available from Dover Publications, I wrote the only thing that seemed appropriate: an all-new chapter paying tribute to the life and work of Nintendo's late president Satoru Iwata.

[Disclaimer: A full review will be forthcoming after I finish the book].I recently purchased this book and, in one day, have gotten about 40 or so pages in. I can easily say that I am greatly enjoying my time with it so far.Kohler writes very clear and concise. It has been very informative to read on the Japanese side of the video games industry, especially regarding its origins and both some of the significant people and companies that made it happen. Kohler's pacing for the two chapters I have read so far seems to be very balanced; just enough side information, fun facts, pictures, and minor variations throughout that make this so much more than a dry history book or thesis paper (which, ironically, this book started out as). It has been entertaining as well to read more in depth on Shigeru Miyamoto's beginnings (i.e., childhood interests, novel and academic/technical experiences, first encounters with Nintendo).As Kohler puts it in the introduction, what you are getting here is a snapshot from his perspective and research of how the Japanese contributed to the video game industry as a whole. I noticed other reviewers stating things such as: "there were other companies other than Nintendo", it is "too narrow in scope", and it is "too short and too shallow", but would like to remind you that Kohler never claims his intent is to provide an all-in-one, comprehensive book on the subject matter. I believe, if you go in with this knowledge, it won't disappoint.Even though I have a long way to go before I'm able to provide my definite thoughts, I feel confident in saying that I'd highly recommend this book to any gamer that has an appreciation for not only the games that they play, but the companies and individuals that started the games industry as well.I hope this helps you in making a decision. I'm glad I chose to give this one a try.

As an almost 40 year old American man, I've of course grown up playing Japanese video games. This book is an interesting look at video gaming's history, and how the Japanese have had such a large part in making it what it is today. Highly recommended.

Best video game history book I've read. Its for fans from a fan, but with an academic perspective.

My son needed this book for school it arrived fast and for a decent price.

I enjoyed this book, mostly. Within its scattershot set of chapters about Japanese games in general, there's a fascinating, albeit sketchy, history of Nintendo that contained many small revelations for me, despite that I've been playing video games incessantly since 1987 or so. But the rest of the material was less compelling for me. The chapter about music games and music in games actively frustrated me--it gave only a brief survey of either topic, and seemed to spend most of its words on a tedious, obsessive examination of Final Fantasy albums. A chapter about Akihabara, Japan's premier consumer electronics marketplace, pushed the trivia-to-insight ratio similarly high. In his effort to treat video games as if they deserve the attention of artists, Kohler concentrates too much on material that is only interesting to fans.Still, on the whole I'm glad I read this book, and I hope Kohler's stated desire to encourage further such works is satisfied; there is clearly much more to say.

Bought 4 Intro to ARCH class, author is very knowledgeable & educated in the field and informative of the pros and cons of the architectural field. The author is very articulate, but if you have dreams of becoming an architect.....don't read this book. Most lofty ideas will be squashed in the first couple of chapters, but it is true to reality!

As much as I love amazon buying their kindle TEXT books or easy E-reading TEXTBOOK material is not ideal. Maybe if this were an enjoyable read but it's not made for learning I gave it two stars for the fact that the website holds all the textbooks that you bought so with just a few clicks you have all your textbooks in one spot. The downfall is that you subnotes and all important information, graphs, charts, subheadings, titles look the same (white background, black text). If your in college and tests are important, you know that all these little sub notes and HINT boxes are very important and you'll miss that information. It's not the e-book either I've seen other students whos e-text looked just like the book but not for any of the books I bought this semester. I hope they change it cause like I said its a good concept and I hate to go somewhere else to get my textbooks next semester.
