    Review

Crisis Ready is a compelling reminder that managing a crisis is not the same as managing a company. If you think the same management techniques that allow you to win at business will enable you to weather a crisis you are doomed. In a crisis, emotions run high, people revert to habits instead of the plan, information travels quickly whether it is accurate or not, and the effects of your decisions can be long-lived. Don't allow the crisis management plan sitting on your shelf give you a false sense of confidence. Read this book and then get to work at making crisis management muscle memory for your organization. --David Struhs, Vice President, Corporate Services and Sustainability, DomtarEvery business of any size needs to read Crisis Ready. Melissa Agnes demonstrates why she is a leading authority on timely, intelligent and appropriate communications in moments of crisis. If United Airlines had read this book in 2009 my United Breaks Guitars YouTube video would never have happened. I'm almost glad she hadn't written it yet. --Dave Carroll, Singer-songwriter, speaker, and creator of United Breaks GuitarsSpeaking as a communications professional, there is no one better at crisis communications than Melissa Agnes. She has a calm and patient way of looking at the entire picture, assessing the challenge, and providing recommendations that work in less time than it takes you to say crisis communications. As social media came into the fold, she was one of the first and most trustworthy professionals to explain the differences between a crisis, an issue, and a quick social media event. She goes into each of these in-depth in Crisis Ready, while also providing a smart roadmap to help you build your reputation so when there is a crisis, you're prepared. With case studies, homework, rules, and tests, you will find yourself ready to handle anything by the end of the book. Read it, absorb it, take lots of notes, and create your crisis preparedness program. --Gini Dietrich, CEO of Arment Dietrich and founder and author of Spin Sucks

This is a long review, but it doesn’t capture the admiration and gratitude I have toward Melissa Agnes for her efforts in Crisis Ready. This magnificent and best-in-class offering on crisis communications warrants a rare compliment: those who take the time to work through it and engage with it are going to emerge with a competitive business advantage over competitors who, for whatever reason, are willing to wait for a full-blown crisis to be at hand before they begin to think about how to handle it.And here’s another rare compliment, at least from me: Every page of this book offers both a big picture idea that’s worthy of making an organizational-wide priority, as well as a specific in the moment tip. Each page. That’s saying something. While probably not quite to Melissa’s extent, as someone who practices widely in the realm of crisis management, I’m picky on books in the field. And this one just blew me away.At the broadest level, Crisis Ready stands apart from the pack because:1) Is it the rare book that manages to concurrently work beautifully as a detailed “how to” guide – while realizing that the variety of crisis scenarios are infinite, and can’t all nearly be covered in detail, the book also sets out a strong, intuitive, and well-organized paradigm for crisis response that can be adopted by any organization.2) Crisis Ready gets it – a crisis can permanently impair, even destroy, a heretofore strong organization if there’s been inadequate planning and/or less than outstanding real time execution/post-crisis lessons learned – at the same time, while no one hopes for a crisis, they are, sadly, inevitable, and the correct mindset for any organization is that crisis response can be an opportunity to show all your key stakeholders just what your organization is made of.3) The book wisely recognizes that so much of effective crisis management is rooted in the organizational mindset and the extent of planning that takes place when all is calm.4) The emphasis on organizational mindset – being crisis ready – which entails, among other crucial points, having an overarching crisis management plan, crisis communication protocols, a standing crisis team, agility applied with wisdom, the correct emotional mindset and an incredibly thorough grasp of relevant stakeholders and their likely expectations in a crisis – could not be more spot on. Many particular crisis situations can be gamed out in advance based on the nature of the business and based on the nature of the threats companies face in today’s world. But some crises will still come from places that could not have been reasonably simulated in advance. These are tough ones, but if the organization is, at its core, designed to be crisis-ready, the organization will find that its processes, procedures, communications and dress rehearsals will be invaluable.5) The emphasis throughout the book on focusing on key organizational stakeholders – and the precise manner and tone in which they’ll need to be engaged with during a crisis - is of tremendous value to organizations well beyond the crisis domain. Too many companies will have failed in general to conduct the deep-dive stakeholder audit that is called for here – and even if a crisis (fortunately) never arises, doing the hard work of knowing your stakeholders is good for business.6) A rare book that can seamlessly move from highly specific processes to wise, actionable generalities. In particular, the author’s use of lists and sub-lists within the text, and her sidebar “crisis ready” rules” are of tremendous value.7) At the same time, the author harnesses current real-world examples that are of outstanding breadth and depth. And the core example, of a cybersecurity breach. Is frankly informative even if that’s not likely the nature of a likely crisis for your business. I learned specifics about cybersecurity that I’m grateful (please note well – one need have absolutely no knowledge or interest in cybersecurity to benefit from this book – it’s just an exemplary example).8) I’ll admit that I did not on this first pass (fortunately coming from mentors and an organization that is pretty crisis ready) stop and do the exercises throughout the book. But I will on second pass and they’re well worth the time. They’re hardly overwhelming but drive needed thinking.9) As at attorney who moonlights in marketing, I believe legal often is a huge roadblock in good crisis communications and I’m pleased to see the author agree. I assure folks, statements like “We’re just unbelievably sorry this happened” is not an admission of guilt that’s going to kill you in court.10) I love that the author can’t emphasize this point enough – a crisis response is about the folks implicated, not the organization. An org may well be praised for its crisis response, but that’s not the point. Those responses worthy of praise will be those which focus 1000% on those impacted and that do so with urgency, empathy, sympathy and emotional relatability.11) The author nails it again in discussing the issues of honesty and transparency. To the extent you can be fully transparent – i.e. say everything you know, release all pertinent documents, etc. – that’s terrific. But there are plenty of situations which complete transparency is either harmful or inappropriate. BUT – that doesn’t mean you get a pass on honesty. Love how the author emphasizes the notion that if you’re going to hold something back, say so publicly. If you can say what you’re holding back, say that too. If you can say why, add it. Don’t ever lie.12) As the author so wonderfully notes, part of being crisis-ready means everyone involved in communicating the crisis having a complete understanding of the business’s main initiatives. Yes, the relevant subject matter experts are going to be called on, but one cannot afford a situation in which the lead crisis communicator has never heard of the project that is the proximate cause of a pending crisis.13) The author is magnificent in reviewing the mediums of communicating crises. She’s right on that it’s crucial to have a sense of whether certain stakeholders will expect to hear news early, or via a particular medium. In my view, she’s also spot on that the press release is of least relevance, and that the website needs to be the hub of a crisis response.14) I haven’t seen this before and it’s masterful. Most of the time in the communications industry, “crisis” is defined by the agency in a contractual sense – e.g., if x,y,z, it’s crisis and a new rate applies. We do that, and I feel fine about it, we’re flexible, but we’ve worked exceptionally hard to calibrate that definition. But the author dives into the substance, demarcating “crises” and “issues” in a scientific way and shows and how the definition of a situation of a may change with circumstances.15) As a quant at heart, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the author’s efforts to quantify the impact of crisis response, offering sensible equations for both a hard and soft “crisis Response Penalty.”16) Crises are almost by definition extraordinarily emotional, and the author is at her best in never losing sight of that. Indeed, an admirable portion of the book deals with human psychology, the realities of irrationalities, etc.17) The author puts forth a magnificent five-stage model of becoming truly crisis-ready. I feel like I’ve written a novella already and hence won’t lay that out and spoil it, but suffice it to say, it’s brilliant.18) I’ll end with a theme that permeates the book and which I personally couldn’t agree more with. No one hopes for a crisis, but if you’re crisis-ready, you have a chance to show the world the following brand attributes: Communication, Respect, Investigation, Showing (strong, emotionally intelligent leadership), [ability to] Issue-Manage and Sustainability.I’m not certain I have the right words to convey how strongly I recommend that all organizations read this book now and implement as much of it as they can, as quickly as they can. This one is a classic that will live on. I look forward to reading it again and referring to it often. Thank you, Melissa!

Having worked with thousands of businesses all around the world there is one thing that they live in FEAR of and that same thing is something that they rarely put any time into being ready for. The reality is that things can go wrong and things probably will go wrong throughout your business journey and being ready, ready, ready for these situations is something that is completely in your control. In "Crisis Ready" the author does a marvelous job of taking a complex and challenging subject and turns it into something that is manageable, process lead and (dare I say it), actually kinda fun. Through working through the book I quickly realised that being "crisis ready' is far more than being prepared for if and when something goes wrong. I learned that being ready for a crisis means that I have a more robust business, my team are more confident in their actions and can perform with more posture and stature within their daily roles. The results of instilling a culture of crisis readiness has meant that we are braver, leaner and our business is continuing to grow, with added feeling of the fact that all our hard work is protected if something does go wrong. This is essential reading for every business leader that would like to have a business for the long term, that is built to weather the storms of the modern landscape, the empowered consumer and viral nature of bad news. What I love most about this book is the way in which it is laid out - its beautiful to look at, has practical infographics and is consumable in clear chunks. I feel instantly smarter from reading it!

An effective response to a crisis starts long before it occurs, as a police officer with over 27 years of experience and with several years as a Public Information/Social Media Officer, I can say that the hardest thing to do is to prepare for the unknown. This book is key to all police administrators to understand the current dynamic of communications in today’s world. It provides clear examples of why it’s important to build relationships with your community and stakeholders and the importance of updating your communications strategies.Crisis Ready helps you create a culture to mitigate risk in real time, understand expectations, and make smart decisions quickly.

I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy a book about crisis management as much as I did. The author does a fantastic job of sharing case studies and stories while explaining what worked and didn't work with each incident. Also the model / framework for crisis readiness is the perfect thing to have posted in your cubicle so you know exactly how to prepare.

A very well written and practical book. Melissa did an excellent job of using her years of experience and knowledge gained through acting as a crisis management expert to write a very informative, practical and comprehensive book. I enjoyed reading the recommendations and real stories, which Melissa used to emphasize her recommendations. The chapters cover a wide range of topics and the reader is able to apply the knowledge immediately. Well done Melissa!

It’s not often a business book is a page-turner that leaves you staring at walls and running through hypotheticals in your head. But Crisis Ready is that book. The writing style is casual and genuine. The advice is backed by years in trenches and war rooms. The homework is immediately applicable. And most importantly, Crisis Ready gives you the ingredients to build the culture your company needs, and your customers deserve.Don’t skim it once and leave it on a dusty shelf. This is an action book! Read it, use it, share it.

You'd think a book on crisis preparedness would be boring - most are. Not "Crisis Ready". It's engaging, fun, captivating, and energizing... all while providing business strategies that are directly relatable and applicable. I highly recommend this read for the whole team - in every department! It was a fun read!

    About the Author

When David Eimer made his first trip to China in 1088, he had no idea he would end up living and working there. After taking a law degree at University College London, he abandoned the idea of becoming a barrister for a career as a freelance journalist. That took him from London to LA for five years, where he wrote for a variety of newspapers and magazines including the London Sunday Times, the Mail on Sunday and the Guardian. Back in London, David began to be intrigued by the world's increasing focus on China. Returning there in 2002 for the first time in 14 years, he found a country that had changed almost beyond all recognition. He moved to Beijing in early 2005 and now contributes to the Sunday Telegraph and South China Morning Post, among other publications.

Used this for a weeklong trip to Beijing. I found this incredibly helpful for choosing which sites to see - I checked off all the major sites minus one, and would not have been able to do so in such a short time without this guide. I found the restaurant and hostel recommendations to be spot-on. Maps were incredibly helpful and easy to use and the size was perfect for my jeans back pocket and a discreet peek at contents when needed. My only gripes are that some of the shopping locations are out of date (the awesome t-shirt joint appears to no longer exist), and that the recommendations for areas of the Great Wall are limited to Badaling and Simatai - what about Jinshangling (the location I went to)? Badaling is crazy crowded, and Simatai is for serious hikers only, but Jinshangling is a good compromise. Seems outright bizarre to not include it! I'd also note that a word on how to cope with Beijing smog would be good - N95 filter masks are available at most pharmacies, which would be a nice note for a guide like this as the air quality can make you feel VERY ill. Also, other guides (Nat Geo) offer better pronunciation guides to local languages. I'm usually pretty good at picking up a few words when needed, even in tonal languages, if there is a good guide but this one didn't do much for that.

It's a good guide, but perhaps a bit out of date by now? In my opinion, it's inexcusable to omit at least mentioning the Olympic Village from the 2008 Olympics that were held in Beijing. The famous Bird's Nest and Water Cube center are two very internationally recognizable and historically important modern buildings that I feel visiting foreigners would be very interested in seeing. A bullet train ride to Tianjin is also a very nice and different getaway for a day-trip. Please also mention that "Real-Id" is in effect now and your passport is needed for almost anything, even such as buying a train ticket or buying a Chinese SIM card for your cellphone. Also note that some local vendors prefer and sometimes only accept payment via smartphone, such as via AliPay or WeChat. Also worth mentioning is the expansive bicycle system present all through the city. With a properly set up cell phone, you could borrow any participating bicycle parked on the streets all through the city, ride it, and pretty much just leave it when you are done, in almost any reasonable area, often for free. I'd like to see a little expansion on the language section, particularly higher numbers for dealing with prices.

Great service and very helpful pocket guide.

Highly convenient and packed with useful information. It was my backup data source, and it came with a nice map.

    Research on Beijing.

If your going to Beijing you need to take this book with you. The guide has all the basics you need on what sites to see and where to try eating.

Handy guide... informative, great illustrations and perfect pocket size. Always love pocket guides when traveling.

It's convenient in addition to apps, etc. Great for sticking in a purse, reading in transit. Bought two others for Hong Kong and Bangkok and they got me to all the top sites and helped me identify some great spots off the beaten track - highly recommend.

An incredible biography of a very complicated, brilliant man, It looks like this writer spent many years working on this to get the whole picture. He writes somewhat like Tolstoy. There are no brief descriptions. He takes apart every aspect of his relationships to others in his life as well as to himself. We see Tolstoy go through his privileged and joyful childhood, his selfish adolescence and adulthood, and watch him wrestle with his conscience through marriage as a middle aged, older, then very old man. If you read "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina" you know his ability to get inside all of his characters hearts and minds, whether they be wealthy aristocrats, starving peasants, blossoming young girls, or tired old men. His mind is the perfect foundation for a writer, but almost a disaster for a living breathing husband and father who is supposed to provide consistency and stability. I finally understand why Tolstoy did what he did to his wife and family. I could not put this book down. Highly recommend!

Henri Troyat has write a number of "popular" literary biographies, most of which aren't of much value compared with the best biographies of his subjects. His biography of Flaubert is small beer compared with Steegmuller, Starkie, and etc. Ditto his Turgenev is inferior to Shapiro and Magarshack. However, this bio of Tolstoy, though it's been called "fiction" in part, reads well, covers the ground, and runs a shadowy third to Maude and A.N. Wilson. So if you want to read all that's available and worth reading on Tolstoy, you can safely buy this book.

This book is very informative yet reads as lively as a Tolstoy novel. Reading this before, during, or after you read "War and Peace" is very enlightening. Interesting the fact that the author of "War and Peace" struggled with history in school and exclaimed that history was "nothing but a heap of myths and useless, trivial details, sprinkled with dates and names". Other wisdoms include "Bronchitis is an imaginary disease! Bronchitis is a metal!" Highly entertaining. I had to deduct one star due to the fact that there is not one picture in this biography which I find quite odd.

Troyat maintains a certain emotional distance most of the time, which is best considering the contradictory subject. That said, the Hero-Tolstoy comes forward clear in passages and Troyat gives his due respect to the considerable force of humanity that Tolstoy was.Comprehensive without seeming cluttered with uninteresting facts. Great criticism of Tolstoy's work, but it doesn't take over and turn this into literary criticism.Overall a wonderful biography.

If you want "detail" about Tolstoy... this is the book. It is well written and chock full of detail. I would have given this a 5 star rating but the biography contains more detail than I am interested in. Still, I must credit Troyat for his writing, his research and his thorough portrayal of Tolstoy... seemingly an overwhelming task. This gave me a lot of insight into Tolstoy and his life. Glad, I read it.

This book is enlightening and entertaining. I always loved his books, but didn't know a lot about him personally. Troyat is a good writer, but, beware, if you don't like Tolstoy, you may find this book too detailed and long.

Book purchased through AmazonBook is in very good shape. I wouldn't consider it perfect, but copies of original first edition seem hard to get in any condition. Sevice was quick enough, but box it came in should be a lot sturdier. Book jacket had slight tear and pages a little rough around the edges. As I said box it came in was terrible, I was lucky the book itself didn't sustain damage. I was very happy to get it, and the price was fair. Would buy from them again, after making sure they wrap it better.Book lover Mike

the book was a gift which my friend has highly praised

#379 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I love this series more and more with each book I read. Didn't think it was possible, but it's true!! If you can't handle suspense and mystery this is not the right fit for you. Patience while the story unfolds is a major requirement!!The story could come across as slow paced, but it is definitely not drawn out, and the speed matches with the level of information being thrown around while this world is being built. This is not your average run of the mill romance novel. Kristy has built a complex world of mystery and intrigue which pulls you in and leaves you begging for more. The characters in this series are entertaining, from the headliners to the beta and omega ladies playing supporting roles. I love Violets empathic nature, and her ability to befriend those who seem weaker even at risk to her own life. In book 3 we got a WHOLE LOT of answers to the questions we have been asking. There is still so much more of this world for us to get lost in though, and I cannot wait to travel further on this journey with Violet and her merry band of misfits ☺ While not everyone's cup of tea I love 😍😍 😍 the detail and intricacies of the storyline. So, if you looking for a series that is more involved than purely erotica give this a try. Just be prepared to spend hours of your life absorbed in this new world.Â

I gobbled this book up in 24 hours. I found myself getting a little lost at some parts, especially towards the end. For most of the book getting any information was like pulling teeth. There were these little info drops that were so rapid I had to go back and read them again. I still wasn't able to get their meaning fully. Like THE Marta Portocale. Maybe I missed something along the way. A couple things didn't make sense. Like does Violet want info or not? She walks out and changes the subject when it's offered. And the end. It's another cliffhanger. Violet ends up in a situation that was avoidable. Seemed forced for effect. I hate complaining about books that I really do enjoy though. Being a third book that's not the end of the series, I worried it would be a "filler" book. It was definitely not a "filler" book. It moved the story forward and was filled with as much humor as the first 2 books. I really love all the characters and the omegas have become favorites of mine. I liked the change of scenery and the switch ups of the guys at different times. The reverse harem aspect is one of the best I've come across. It just works so well. Violet isn't whiny and irritating which is important for me in a MC. I had some complaints but not even close to giving up the series worthy complaints. I look forward to the next book.

The next book in this series can't come out fast enough! Violet is the perfect heroine, balanced in kindness and toughness, but not without her flaws. Her attitude, hilarious lines and just general likability is on point! She really shines in this series and helps make even the terrible cliffhangers bearable. And the monster men? I honestly can't pick a favorite, because they are all so fleshed out (figuratively and literally 😉). Kristy manages to even make characters who should be unlikable into such complex and intriguing people you almost want to forgive...Except the Big Bad we have yet to meet. Idun really better be worth all the hype. At this point, her appearance is going to be hard not to make anticlimactic. And the secrets...they unwrap so slowly but naturally, it's truly beautiful storybuilding. My only complaint is the never ending cliffhangers and the fact this series isn't done yet! Oh, and a good beta reader might be nice. The editing mistakes can be slightly cringe worthy.Honestly though, this series is by far one of the best things I have read in a long time. If you haven't been reading, you're missing out.

I guess I'm in the mood for a drawn-out series...OR...the author is just that good she's got me wanting more and I don't mind waiting. Ok, I might mind just a smidge but I'm going to pretend that I'm one of those patient kinds of reader. I'm invested in All The Pretty Monsters and I know I will keep coming back for more.Gypsy Origins sucked me in from the very first page to the last. I THINK we've finally got our answer as to what Violet is and what her purpose is. But, to tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if we've all got it wrong and she's a fairy... angel... brownie... or something else that's badass and smells really pretty? This last earth-shattering announcement wasn't entirely convincing. I'm not sure I believe Tom. Or, maybe it's that I don't want to believe him. Now the announcement before the last one, I really could get behind that one.I have to admit a little secret here...Vance is my favourite. Sure, Damien is tempting, Emit is growly sexy and Arion, well, he's just so affectionate. But, Vance is just so tortured, hard-working, put-together, sexy and strong. I can't even pinpoint my favourite bit about him but I just wanted to give him a cuddle and take away his burdens for a little while.Now...HUBBA HUBBA...we get to the "group action". I actually thought it was pretty tastefully done. It doesn't go into overly explicit details but you definitely get the connection between the three involved. I'm not going to tell you who's getting the action, but I will tell you that it was BLOODY HOT!! Violet is getting the ACTION!!!The story is progressing well and I completely understand why Kristy Cunning felt a need to spread it out over numerous books. They are long enough to give you a decent read and don't feel like they're being drawn out for the sake of lining the author's pockets. Which is a BIG CALL for me. I'm not normally a huge fan of a story being drawn out over numerous books, but this one works for me. Probably because it's fairly well priced, a decent length, and each instalment packs a punch.I'm still a fan of All The Pretty Monsters and I wait with bated breath for Gypsy Moon.

If you're reading this review, I'm going to assume that you're either one of the authors or someone like me who had to get this book for your managerial economics class. As you can probably see, there are a lot of fairly negative reviews for this book. I think this book gets a bad rap because of the way in which it is written, which is more like a mathematics or statistics text. They present abstract concepts in mathematical terms in a way that resembles the proof of a theorem. Personally, I didn't have a problem with that. In fact, I really liked that because through their presentation, they put some pretty abstract concepts into quantifiable terms. I don't own a lot of managerial economics textbooks, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job of mathematically presenting said concepts. What I didn't like about this book was the fact that it didn't offer much in the way of practical knowledge or application. As an example, the authors discussed utility functions, production functions, and cost functions at length and then provided a "Quant Option" with the appropriate equations for those who are not mathematically impaired. The authors never adequately explained how a manager would go about developing those functions in the first place. If they were to explain how to develop those functions and if they were to add more practical material to complement their excellent treatment of the theoretical material, I would give it 5 stars.

First I will admit to not reading the entire book, just the chapters required for a managerial economics class I was taking. That aside this is one of the least informative books I've used in my academic or professional career. The main issues I have with the book is it is a very topical read (i.e. pointlessly wordy) with very little depth and like a lot of academic reads it really does not focus on application. (You'd think a book with Managerial in the title would focus 80% of its effort on application.)The end result is a book that seems to make fairly simple topics sound complex and difficult while minimizing the complexity of more difficult subjects all the while not helping to improve your ability to make economic managerial decisions.

This is required by my professor for the Economics class I am in for my MBA. I find it to be a lot of definitions and not as much substance. I have found that some of the abbreviations used in the textbook are not standard therefore when my professor speaks about certain formulas there can be confusion. Overall the book is better for reference rather than learning the material in my opinion.

So, my minor is in economics, so I'm pretty well versed in econ. In grad school, Managerial Econ was one of my requirements so I thought it would be pretty easy, until I got this book. The questions, examples, and the writing - none of it makes sense to me. This is THE worst econ book I've ever seen. WORST. Hands. Down.

This book came in 3 different pieces. I can make it work but it’s really badly separated from the covered and in piece.

If your looking for an applied managerial economics text this really isn't it. It is solid in it's theory presentation and cases, but the applications are mostly theoretical, not applied. This isn't a book you will keep around for reference.

Truly one of the worst textbooks I have ever had to deal with. Nothing is explained clearly and the problems at the end of the chapters do not reflect the information in the chapter. They use *for lack of a better word* stupid phrases throughout the book (ex. Enough chat; let's get serious) that distract from the already bad explanations.

Required textbook for my class... Terrible textbook.I haven't taken an Econ class in 8 years... Trying to learn solely from this book is impossible. It's not clear and the examples can be tedious.

This collection of utterly horrendous postcards is a delightful window into our past and what people valued in days gone by. Certainly in retrospect it is hard to grasp what on earth the people who made these postcards, and more importantly the people who bought and sent them were thinking, but at the time they all made sense to somebody. Most of these cards are from 1960's and 1970's Britain; I recommend the companion volume "Boring Postcards USA" for a similar look at US postal proclivities in the same eras. Some of the themes of the book are over-represented (highway interchanges chief among them), but I found the postcards of motels, campgrounds, and public areas to be charming though horrifying.Among my favorite cards in this volume are such greats as "NUL. 30F. M.6. Motorway. Newcastle-under-Lyme.", "Interior of the Mersey Tunnel, Liverpool", "The Drive In Bottle Shop, Northampton", "The Butts Shopping Center, Reading", "Farnham Post Office", "Canteen, Stoke Mandeville Hospital" (a truly ghastly realm of colors), "National Giro Centre, Bootle" (an amazingly postcard that has actually been postmarked!), "A corner of the Moota Motel, Cockermouth", "The Garreg Goch Caravan Park, Morfa Bychan" (the saddest trailer court I have ever seen), and perhaps my favorite of all, "Rain Clouds, from Southend Pier", a bad photo of some clouds in beautiful black and white.Truly, this is a great collection that simultaneously made me amused and sentimental. I only wish that I could detach and send these postcards, as I know several people who would be delighted to get a card of "Turbine Hall, CEGB Wylfa Nuclear Power Station, Anglesey."

I just love this collection of postcards - they are truly mind-numbing, and as I was leafing through the book, my over-riding thought was WHY??? Why on earth would anyone take a picture of the National Giro Centre, Bootle, Preston Bus Station, numerous Forte motorway restaurants and the Bull Ring centre? Perhaps these buildings and roads were something to be proud of when they were built - a brave new post-war Britain. I can see the point of a few of them, but some are just mind-numbingly boring and just plain odd. The oddest, in fact, is Basingstoke. Three pictures in one postcard, all showing the same view of construction work on a pedestrian precinct.Ahhh - the pedestrian precinct!! How 60's is THAT!!!!!A great book to have around and a great conversation starter.

    Very boring.

Great pictures through all the book. It really take you back in time. Thanks to Stuart Murdoch's 'The Celestial Café' that I found this book and many others.

    great shipping and product!

I do not understand why anyone would make a book of pictures of stupid post cards when they could have made a book full of real post cards that someone could actually send to other people. I was so excited yo have this coming so I could send out some strange cards to people, but it is just shrunken pictures of post cards with another stupid picture on the back so they are 100% usless to me. I will be throwing this into the trash. The author and publisher are idiots.

Anyone interested in bad, sterile, depressing and bland architecture need look no further. This book provides perfect examples in how NOT to design living spaces and aestetically pleasing public landscapes and public buildings. The book easily could have been titled "How not to Feng Shui".What really strikes you as you glance over the whole of the motel, trailerpark and assorted public buildings is an overwhelming blandness, mismatching and tacky colors, stark, bleak and monotonous nothingness that envelops these cheap and thoughtless artifacts of a thankfully bygone era.A great sociological book could be written on why the general whole of the western world lost so much of its sense of aesthetic beauty in the 20th century and made books like this possible. Is it that 20th century man lost all higher hopes and feeling for beauty and that the horrors of the century can be reflected in the strictly utilitarian architecture that dominated the century?Or is it that the almost exclusively materialistic mindset of 20th century dictated that his environments reflect his inner state?Pore over this book and draw your own conclusions.

Purchased as a gift for my nephew. Came on time and was packaged in a manner so that if handled properly would not bend. Looks perfect. I haven't read it but it comes with two pages of stickers and has nice illustration. I would say that this book is on a 2nd grade level.

My ninja turtle fan is 5. He loves this book! It is in our bedtime book rotation. I think he even has it just about memorized we have read it so much. He also had fun with the stickers. I let him decorate the inside cover, front and back, with them. Has a nice personalized touch without interfering with the actual book/story. I would definitely recommend this book!

This is an amazing book, my little brother loves these books and I can see why. They are fun and exiting and have a lot of action in them, the idea of mutant turtles that are martial arts students and that fight aliens and save N.Y.C is CRAZY exiting I can see why they are a hit series among child's and many teens and some adults too. Anyway I love this book and I recommend it to young boys and girls I hope u enjoy it!!!!!!!!

My 2yr old is a huge TMNT fan so we read this at night. It's very close to verbatim with the episode (which we've seen a million times) so shes even at the point were this may help when she starts to read herself.

My 3 year old grandson loves the Ninja Turtles and loves this book. Because it's not too wordy, it doesn't lose his attention. I would recommend this book.

Very summed up version of the first episode of the current tmnt shows. So as much of a fan my son is he was not that thrilled with the story, he's still happy he has it but it was just okay. But fair for the price, especially with the nice size and amount of stickers that comes in it.

My 3 Year old son loved this book when I gave it to him. It explains the basic story of the TMT's (which as a parent I appreciated!) Just the right length for him, and he loves to look through it and have it read to him.

It was a good easy read, and my 3 year old son loved it. Would have given it 5 stars if the download version was more user friendly, the words were small and turned pages really slowly.
